(When our teacher visite us)

Mr Gregory came to see Abdullah's group and they were in workshops that teaches patients some hands on skills and to build things of their own and mr Gregory spoke to the supervisor about how the students are helping the organization and the patients and took that information and made an assessment. Our supervisor was sick on that day, and we went to talk with the administration to bring someone from the organization to speak with mr Gregor, so they sent a woman named Ruweida to sleek with mr Gregory and to assess our group. after that, me and Abdulhadi showed him what we did in the facility and we showed him the patients and what disability each patient had and showed him the different wards in the facility. And that was our day.

( Horses Day)

One of the methods of treatment for the patients is by showing them that people with disabilities can ride horses and they can train patients who can't walk to start walking again. Some of the disabled children like to see new colors and a lot of them liked the color of the horses.

Day Two
My day began with excitement as I knew that it was the day of the trip. In the morning Hadi and I went to the hospital; there we met Doctor Suad to make sure that the trip will go well. As we previously spoke to her about the details of the trip we felt that it was appropriate to talk to her about it.  She told us that there was a trip in the morning which went to the Cornish, the beach and that our trip was the second trip. The first trip was late on leaving and we were told that they would be late returning also. Therefore, I waited for the patients to return before we could go onto our trip to the mall. We were told initially that there would be eight patients accompanying us from the hospital. Unfortunately, after they returned from the Cornish trip, only three patients wanted to come with us. I was upset to hear this but I also understood, I thought that as it was hot it was possible that the patients were tired and wanted to rest. In the end three patients came with us and we were accompanied by Doctor Suad. As the trip was already running late I discussed with the doctor and we decided that it would be a good idea to go to the closest mall, the closest mall to the hospital was Bawbasharkh Mall. We reached the mall separately, I drove and the patients and the doctor arrived on a special bus which belonged to the hospital. From the three patients I took a man who was on a wheelchair with me,

I pushed him around the mall. I could see the happiness on his face while he was going around the mall; I understood his happiness as I was told by the doctor that the patients go out of the hospital once or twice a month. I found this shocking; I could not imagine what I would do in a hospital for so many days. While at the mall, we decided to get ice cream, as two of the three men were unable to choose I helped them choose the flavor of ice cream

As some of them struggled to eat, I helped them eat their ice cream by feeding them. They were very happy when eating the ice cream I could tell and I could see that they really did enjoy themselves. This made me happy as even though eight patients did not come with us I felt that I was a part of three people’s happiness. After they had eaten the ice cream,

I had noticed that the patients were sad, then I realized why, it was time for them to return to the hospital and time for me to return, I told them not to worry and that I would come and see them again on Sunday. We all parted ways at the mall, with myself returning to college and Doctor Suad and the three patients returning to the hospital. I waved to them while I left and I could see that they were sad but I could also see that they were extremely grateful for today. I think that I have learnt a lot today, I have learnt that I take simple things like going to the mall and eating ice cream for granted. I found it very touching to see how grateful these people were just for being out a few hours, I felt very happy to be a part of their happiness. I found that I could make individuals happy by doing simple things and this also made me happy. I wait patiently to meet them all again on Sunday.

Day one
At the beginning of my day I did not know what to expect and what was expected from me. Due to my uncertainty, I met with my friends in front of the hospital before hand; this was to make me feel comfortable in my surroundings. Once I had met my friends outside the hospital, we went to meet the supervisor; there I explained my position, that I am a student and that I wanted to spend some time helping those who are disadvantaged and to give back to the community, at the same time this would be helping me with my project. Then I met MR (Almzroy), he gave me a form to fill out,

`

this form asked me about my skills. After all the paperwork was completed, I was introduced to a Doctor who gave us a brief introduction about the background of the hospital, a brief outline about the eighteen different types of impairments which are treated in the hospital. I was told that a small number of two people have passed away in the past two years and a few patients have done so well that they have been able to be rehabilitated and have returned to their home. After this short brief introduction we were given a tour of the facility, on this tour I was told about four wards. The first two wards had elderly men, the third children and the forth women.

The first ward had elderly men who were either burnt or in car accidents, I had met a few of these men and spoke to them, I felt sad and felt grateful for all the things I had. The second ward has elderly men who were in more complicated situations, here the men often forgot things, or they had difficulties in hearing or in speech, all of these men were permanent patients and who stayed at the hospital all the time. The third ward was a children’s ward, these children did not stay here all the time, they came only during the day and after they returned to their home. I thought that this was good as it gave the family of those children a rest and also gave the children a change of scene.

The forth ward was a woman’s ward; we did not go into here. After seeing these four wards, I was shown to a therapy room; here in the therapy room there were different types of equipment to help aid patients to help rehabilitate them. I thought that this was good as it would help patients to progress day by day.

The last room I was taken to was an activities room, here patients made soap and candles, this was activities for those who lived in the hospital; I was amazed to see the many colors of candles, I also thought that this was very good as patients who stayed in the hospital had something to do.

Next time we plan to take patients of the hospital to the mall, I think this is a good trip to go on and I think it is a good way of integrating the patients into society. I also think that this would give them more motivation to get well soon.
